General Health and Wellness:
In today’s world, we all get bogged down by our daily lives. The trouble is, there are too many tasks that keep us from doing the things we know we should be doing.
Instead of beating yourself up about the things you haven’t been able to accomplish, why not start with smaller goals? Break down big tasks into smaller ones, and start to check them off as you go along. You’ll feel better, and your big goals will get done little by little.
Change. It’s a difficult thing to implement in our lives. Starting with small goals and taking pride in oneself is an easy first step. For example; instead of telling yourself that you will go to the gym every day, go for a walk (with the dog, if you have one) a little further than usual just one day this week. It’s that simple. Start there, and pat yourself on the back. Do that for as long as it takes for it to become a habit (three weeks of consistency helps a behavior become a habit).
Once you’re on the way to forming a good habit, add another one. But remember, always keep it simple.
Here are some simple things you can do to promote your general well being.
- Add some steps to your day by just walking. Outside is better if possible, and don’t forget to enjoy the fresh air.
- Start your morning with some basic stretches. Focus on one muscle group that is particularly tense and give yourself a couple of minutes in the morning to loosen it up. Just have a nice stretch to warm up your day.
- Smile at someone. It’s okay if they don’t smile back.
- Help someone with something. Even the tiniest bit of help says a lot.
- Close your office door (if you can), turn your favorite song up and boogie down for a couple of minutes. We’re serious. You’d be surprised how great you feel.
- Drink 8 glasses of water every day. Drinking enough water will help your lips not feel dry or cracked, will improve your complexion and will help joints work better among many other benefits. Remember, 8oz is a tall glass, not a tumbler.
Health and Wellness tips for Sleeplessness, Stress and Anxiety:
Life can be hectic and unpredictable. For some, it’s exciting. For most of us, it’s a bit much. Many people suffer from simple complaints of stress, anxiety and sleeplessness. Many are overworked, overstressed and over-scheduled. This is a problem in America and all over the world. The current economic environment has intensified the pressure to perform at work and at the same time, we are being asked to do more work, faster and more efficiently. Most of us are also learning to get by with less money these days, and finding a way to adjust can create huge amounts of... you guessed it, stress, anxiety and sleeplessness.
Symptoms of anxiety such as apprehension, nervous tension and “stage fright” can be a daily part of our lives no matter what we do. Exposure to anxiety on a regular basis can exhaust the system and lead to stress. The symptoms of stress can make you feel irritable, nervous and cause nervous digestive disorders and palpitations. Combined and consistent exposure to stress can result in sleeplessness from recurring thoughts, difficulty staying asleep or frequent waking at night.
Here are some simple recommendations that that you can use to deal with anxiety, stress and sleeplessness on a daily basis:
- Take time out of your day to appreciate the things you have in your life; such as family, friends, and health.
- When you start to feel your muscles tense up or your stomach starting to knot, take some long, deep breathes in your nose and out your mouth. You will be surprised how good this will make you feel.
- Before going to sleep avoid caffeine, heavy foods, and intense exercise. Develop a routine that you can always follow that teaches your body to start winding down and preparing for sleep. A good example is reading before bed.
Many people who are suffering from sleeplessness, stress or anxiety quickly turn to prescriptions or over-the-counter pills to help ease their symptoms. The side effects of these drugs can leave people feeling groggy or confused during the day as well as sometimes affecting their natural sleep patterns.
